Your Journey Begins
Consultation
Your initial appointment will include an in-person consultation designed to evaluate your individual needs and treatment goals. During this time, I will assess your hair growth patterns, discuss your concerns and desired outcomes, review your medical history, and determine the most effective treatment plan for you.
You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and gain a clear understanding of the electrolysis process, expected results, and recommended treatment schedule. Following the consultation, the remainder of your appointment will be dedicated to a treatment session, allowing you to experience the electrolysis process firsthand and begin your permanent hair removal journey. My goal is to ensure you feel informed, comfortable, and confident before beginning treatment.
Please continue on this page to learn pre & post treatment care.
Preparing For Treatment
Electrolysis is most effective when practitioner expertise and client preparation work together. Every individual's hair growth pattern and treatment timeline are unique, but there are several simple ways to support successful treatment.
Avoid Skin-sensitizing Products or Treatments
As a general guideline, stop retinoids and exfoliants, including AHAs, 5–7 days before treatment and wait at least 1–2 weeks after cosmetic procedures. If you are unsure whether a product or treatment may affect your appointment, please contact us before your visit.
Follow Your Recommended Schedule
Electrolysis permanently treats hairs that are in the appropriate stage of growth. Because not all hairs are visible or treatable at the same time, a series of treatments is necessary to achieve permanent results. Adhering to your personalized treatment plan, when possible, allows me to target new hairs during each follicle’s optimal treatment window and can help maximize treatment efficiency over time.
The Process
Permanent hair removal is achieved progressively as individual follicles are treated throughout their natural growth cycles. Treatment timelines vary based on factors such as the treatment area, hair density, hormonal influences, and consistency of appointments. During your consultation, we will discuss realistic expectations and develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
Hydration Matters
One of the most important ways to prepare for electrolysis is to arrive well hydrated. Adequate hydration not only supports healthy skin but also helps create optimal conditions for effective treatment within the follicle itself.
For best results, increase your water intake in the 24–48 hours leading up to your appointment and continue hydrating on the day of treatment. Well-hydrated tissue may allow treatment to be delivered more efficiently and plays a meaningful role in supporting successful permanent hair removal.
Think of hydration as one of the simplest ways to contribute to your treatment success.
Avoid Tweezing or Waxing
To ensure hairs are available for treatment, please avoid tweezing, waxing, or threading between appointments. These methods remove the hair from the root, making it unavailable for electrolysis treatment and may contribute to distortion of the follicle.
Shaving or trimming is the best option for areas under treatment, and a small amount of visible hair growth is needed on the day of your appointment.
After Care
For the First 24–48 Hours
Avoid excessive heat, including hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and very hot showers.
Refrain from strenuous exercise that causes heavy sweating.
Avoid swimming pools, especially chlorinated water, if the skin is irritated.
Do not apply harsh skincare products, including exfoliants, retinoids, acids (AHA/BHA), or alcohol-based products on the treated area.
Avoid makeup on facial treatment areas for at least 24 hours.
Sun Protection
Protect treated skin from direct sun exposure.
After 24 hours apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher.
Avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure.
What to Expect
Temporary side effects may include:
Mild redness
Slight swelling
Tenderness
Small pinpoint scabs or crusting in some cases
These reactions are a normal part of the healing process. Allow any scabs to heal naturally and do not pick at them.
Proper aftercare helps your skin heal comfortably and supports the best possible treatment results. Mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity in the treated area is normal and typically resolves within a few hours to a few days, depending on the area treated and your skin's sensitivity.
Immediately After Treatment
Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily.
Apply any recommended soothing product as directed by your electrologist.
Avoid scratching, rubbing, or picking at the skin.
If needed, use a clean, cool compress to reduce temporary redness or swelling.
