How Does Electrolysis Work?
By treating each individual hair follicle, electrolysis permanently destroys the cells responsible for hair growth and is effective for all skin tones and natural hair colors.
During treatment, a highly trained electrologist gently inserts a sterile, hair-thin probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A small amount of electrical energy is then delivered to the follicle, permanently treating the cells that produce hair.
Once the follicle has been treated, the hair is carefully removed with tweezers. When the growth center of the follicle is successfully destroyed, that follicle can no longer produce new hair.
Electrolysis Really is Permanent
Electrolysis has been used cosmetically for over 150 years and remains the only proven method of permanent hair removal. Once a hair follicle has been successfully treated, it will never produce another hair.
Because hair grows in natural cycles, multiple treatment sessions are needed to treat every active follicle in the desired area. New hair may also appear over time from previously dormant follicles that become active due to hormonal changes, genetics, medications, aging, or certain medical conditions. These are newly active follicles, not previously treated ones.
What to Expect After Treatment
Some temporary redness, mild swelling, or sensitivity around the treated area is normal and typically resolves within a short time. Small scabs may occasionally form as part of the natural healing process. When performed by a licensed professional, electrolysis is a safe and effective treatment with minimal risk of complications.
Types of Electrolysis
Modern electrolysis uses three primary modalities. Depending on your hair type, skin characteristics, and treatment goals, one or more techniques may be used during your treatment.
Thermolysis
Thermolysis uses high-frequency electrical energy to generate heat within the hair follicle, destroying the cells responsible for hair growth. This widely used electrolysis modality is an effective treatment option for many clients and treatment areas.
Galvanic Electrolysis
Galvanic electrolysis uses a direct electrical current to create a chemical reaction within the hair follicle, destroying the cells responsible for hair growth. As the original electrolysis modality, galvanic remains an effective treatment option and may be selected based on the characteristics of the hair and the individual needs of the client.
Blend Method
The Blend Method combines both thermolysis and galvanic electrolysis, using heat and chemical action together to destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. This versatile modality can be adapted to a variety of treatment situations and is chosen according to each client's unique hair characteristics and treatment goals.
